An urgent rescue mission to save 60 Red Listed Brown bears living in deplorable conditions in illegal captivity in Armenia has been launched by FPWC, International Animal Rescue (IAR) and SOS Zoo and Bear Rescue.
The bears have been taken from the wild and are being kept in tiny, filthy cages in private facilities including restaurants, hotels, gas stations, roadside zoos and even a cement factory. They are used as a money-making attraction or for breeding.
We need funds for the rescues themselves and for the care and maintenance of the rescued bears. Only very few bears can ever return to the wild. Most of them are in a bad condition and need medical care.
We simply can’t let these bears rot in hell in their lonely iron cages.
Let’s end bear keeping in Armenia for once and for all!
Information: It costs around € 8000 to rescue and care for one bear. The amount of € 8000 can be split up as follows: € 5000 is a one-time cost per bear for building the enclosure, an annual cost of € 2400 per year for food and care, and a one-time cost per bear of around € 600 for the rescue itself.
